Jack Calder’s niece Patricia Calder’s book “I Flew into Trouble” has been published by Iguana Books in Toronto.
This exciting story will be on sale for $25 on Nov. 2, 1:30-4 pm at the Grafton Legion.
Jack Calder was a navigator with RCAF/RAF from 1940-1944. He parachuted after his Wellington crashed and became a POW in Republican Ireland for 20 months. Then he escaped and got back into the action until his plane crashed and he ended up in hospital for 8 months. Then he became a Pathfinder and continued flying missions almost non-stop until July 21, 1944.
He had been a sports reporter/editor with Canadian Press before the war so he continued writing stories from the front. These were published in daily papers across Canada and US and collected into a scrapbook by his mother. You can view the scrapbook on the University of Windsor website:
